When Relationships End

To Hold or Release

Some relationships need an ending; to be appreciated for what they had been and what they had brought to our lives, and then released. With those relationships, holding onto them for too long, or transforming them into something they were never meant to be, only prolongs suffering. Not everyone is meant to stay in our lives for the long run. Those relationships have served their purpose, and when we allow ourselves to soften, and our hurting heart to fill up with love and appreciation for the experience, the purpose of our paths crossing soon becomes clear. And when it does, moving on gracefully becomes effortless.

Other relationships are meant to shapeshift. Those relationships ebb and flow from one dynamic into the next. From a romantic partnership to co-parenting to friendship to a business partnership…and anything in-between and overlapping. Beautiful in every edition, such relationships give us a sense of belonging and a place to practice the art of loving unconditionally. Learning how to love well regardless of a relationship dynamic is both a selfless and a deeply self-serving pursuit, worth every effort.
